We know you expect to do it all in your Subaru Outback: commutes to Portland, off-roading, and hauling. The Subaru Outback can tow thousands of pounds; however, the exact weight depends on the trim level and engine you choose. Let's explore the capability of the Subaru Outback.

Towing Capability

The Subaru Outback tows up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. Augusta drivers can haul the weight of a giraffe, two grizzly bears, three American alligators, or, perhaps, a lightweight travel trailer for trips around Auburn and beyond.

Do you plan on road-tripping with the family? The Subaru Outback would provide stability and comfort if you're looking to road trip to Baxter State Park or Acadia National Park, just south of Bangor, ME. Easily tow everything you'll need like tents, sleeping bags, outdoor cooking supplies, outdoor sporting gear, and more.

Engine Options

Under the Subaru Outback's hood, find one of two different engines. The first, a 2.5-liter flat-four engine, generates 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. The second engine, found in higher trim levels, is a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine capable of generating over 200 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.

Trim Levels

No matter which trim level you choose, expect power, stability, and high performance. The Subaru Outback comes in more than five different trim levels:

  • Base trim level
  • Premium
  • Limited
  • 2.4T Onyx Edition XT
  • Touring
  • 2.4T Limited XT
  • 2.4T Touring XT

The base trim level, Premium, and Limited tow up to 2,700 pounds. Upgrading to the 2.4T Onyx Edition and above unlocks an extra 800 pounds of towing capability for a grand total of 3,500 pounds.
