• When you factor in all-wheel drive, the price for the Ascent stays the same. With all-wheel drive on the base Highlander model, the price increases to just over $36,000.
  

Performance

• To help you travel through winter weather around Augusta and Auburn, every new Subaru Ascent model comes equipped with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, giving you optimal balance, traction and control, regardless of the surface you're on. The Highlander also offers available all-wheel drive, but comes equipped with front-wheel drive standard.
• The new Highlander gets the edge in terms of horsepower, offering 295-horsepower compared to 260-horsepower in the Ascent. However, the Ascent comes with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Boxer engine that delivers 277 pounds-feet of torque thanks to its turbocharger. This is more than the 263 pounds-feet of torque offered through the standard 3.5-liter V6 engine.
• The Ascent offers a slightly smaller turning diameter than the Highlander does with 38-inches compared to 38.7-inches in the Highlander.
• When facing heavy snow or off-road terrain around Bangor, the Ascent lets you avoid those obstacles with 8.7-inches of ground clearance, compared to 8-inches in the Highlander.

Dimensions and Features

• The new Subaru Ascent delivers more cargo space than the highlander does. Behind the third-row, the Ascent delivers 17.6 cubic feet of space, with up to 86.5 cubic feet of space when you fold the seats down. The Highlander offers 16 cubic feet behind the second-row and up to 84.3 cubic feet of space with the seats down.
• All Subaru Ascent models come with a power liftgate, making it easier to access your cargo with the push of a button. The Highlander also offers one, but it doesn't come standard.
